Weimin Zhang (Director)

Weimin Zhang is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and a professional cinematographer. One of China’s Sixth Generation Filmmakers, she graduated from the Beijing Film Academy and the Ohio University School of Film. Since 1992, she has worked on numerous prize-winning films and TV dramas in both China and the U.S. Her successes include The House of Spirit (2001), which won the Women in Film Award, and was featured in more than a dozen film festivals. In 2007, the Library of Congress acquired her interactive multimedia DVD-ROM, Nushu: The Secret Writing of Women, for its permanent collection. In 2008, as a U.S. unit director, she filmed the U.S. Olympic team before, during and after the 2008 Olympics as well as the San Francisco torch relay sequence which became the major content in the award-winning feature documentary, The Ever Lasting Flame – Beijing2008 (2009). The film has become part of the permanent collection of the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland. Weimin is a film Professor teaching at San Francisco State University.
